Assessment Principles
Assessment Principles at Ward End Primary School
Assessment serves many purposes, but the main purpose of assessment in our school is to help Ward End pupils and teaching staff plan next steps in learning with the support of parents and carers.
We use the outcomes of assessment to ensure all our children make excellent progress and to continue to raise our standards of teaching and learning.
Through working with other schools and using standardised tests and assessments, we compare our performance with that of other schools, both locally and nationally.
We assess pupils against assessment criteria which are short, discrete, qualitative and concrete descriptions of what a pupil is expected to know and be able to do.
Pupils are actively encouraged to take part in their own assessment and are involved in setting their own targets for improvement.
Assessment criteria are derived from the school curriculum, which is composed of the National Curriculum and our own design, to meet the needs of our school community at Ward End.
